Beer Works Watermelon Ale - Friday Beer O'Clock Selection 8-6-2010
This week's Beer O'Clock Selection comes from Boston Beer Works, a local favorite spot with decent line of regular and seasonal micro-brews.
Appearance:
Not much to say about the pour because it's served from tap by the staff. It does have a very nice light golden yellow hue with a little bit of a head, but it dissipates quickly leaving only a thin foam around the edge of the glass. Also served with a wedge of watermelon.
Aroma:
There is certainly a bit of watermelon in the aroma as expected, but it's not overwhelming. I also picked up some bready and grassy notes with some hops in there as well.
Taste:
Again there is the watermelon and it's really prettygood. It's not overly sweet and there is actually a bit of a hoppy/grassy sour taste to it that probably helps to bring the sweetness down. I picked up a nice crisp light watermelon flavor at first and finished with a slightly sour, bitter hoppy flavor in the finish.
Feel:
Definately one of the best characteristics of this beer is it's feel. Light, wet, clean and crisp with good carbonation that tickles the tongue.
Drinkability:
The crisp clean light characters and the unique flavor make this a refreshing, drinkable brew - especially when the temps are high and the beer is cold.
Overall:
I do like to order this every now and then and it does make a great refreshing summer brew. It is a good unique beer. My only hang-up with it is that I'd like to see more of a segway or balance between the sweeter sip and the sour finish. Best served cold on a hot summer day.
